Our clients have been asking about ChatGPT and other AI writing models that are getting more popular, and how they could impact agencies, creative writing, and blogging. As an integrated marketing agency who does a lot of copywriting – for websites, blogs, press releases, social media, email marketing and more – we know how time intensive it is and the attention required for the message to hit the mark.
To be honest, there’s no simple answer. These AI programs are still so new and only time will tell how they will impact our work in the long term. Programs like ChatGPT could make our work easier, as it can access so much information on the internet in lightning speed and help us create baseline content for clients (and ourselves). If used properly, AI writing can potentially support the creative work we already do so well.
If used improperly, AI writing could turn the internet into a void of bland and voiceless blogs and articles. If created and published without edits and tweaks, adding a brand voice and human perspective, content will start to blend and bleed from one website into another. These programs also require fact checking for accuracy, especially for industries that are very specific or that change quickly.
Below I posted the responses to two prompts I put into ChatGPT – one about how AI writing could overtake human writers, and one about how AI writing couldn’t overtake human writers. It’s interesting to see how ChatGPT took on itself. And even in the prompt about replacing human writers, ChatGPT still pointed out its deficiencies and where it lacks.
So, while ChatGPT is scary for many who make their living by writing, and companies are looking for ways to cut costs while maintaining output, we don’t think human writers are going anywhere anytime soon and neither does ChatGPT.
